A visit to the baltic state of Estonia with it mix of Swedish, German and Soviet cultures. We tour the western islands locked in time since 1945 as a closed military area till 1989. Two days before we leave we find the country is infested with mosquitoes.  Map route. Tourist site.

Day 1 Sat 18th June – Luxury Spa Hotel in Haapsalu

At airport 12 noon for lunch. Ryanair flight at 14:45 arriving at 19:30. Travel toTallin where we get a bike bus for €15 each 40 miles to Happsalu a sea side town where we stay in the Fra Mare Spa hotel for £30.

Day 2 Sun 5+30 miles – Tourist Farm in Liesi

Cycle to Rohukula for 5 miles. Booked on ferry at 10:30 am which takes 1 hour 40 minutes to get to island of Hiiumaa. Formed 455 million years ago as a result of a meteorite explosion Hiiumaa is one of the oldest islands in the world. Then cycle to wool factory and on to Vetsi Tall Stables for lunch. South to get another booked ferry at 18:15 which takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to the island of Saaremaa The island was a closed area occupied by soviet troops until 1989. where we stay inLieisi for €35. WE eat at the Tourist farm for €6.

Day 3 Mon 28 miles – Guest House in Kuressare

Cycle to Kuressare past windmill hill and then the meteorite crater. Lunch in the Kaali Tavern where wild boar is on the menu. Stay in Parnu Guest House in town centre wherer we stay for €30. Visit Bishops castle

Day 4 Tue 43 miles – Farm in 16th century village on Muhu

Ferry to Estonian island of Hiiuma then cycle to Muhu where we stay for €30 on Vanatoa farm

Day 5 Wed 50 miles – City hotel in Tallinn

Hell day. Cycle 12 miles  to ferry for 8:30 or 9:40 and which takes 25 minutes then head north back to Happsalu where we get the bike bus back to Tallinn at 17:30 and stay in Go-hotel for £25

Day 6 Thu

Day in Tallinn. Day cycle to submarine base possible. Eat lunch in Azerbaijan restaurant. Flight at 22:15 arrive Edinburgh at 23:05
