You will generally be staying in the best areas with fine facilities. A weekend in Paris for £99 all in, the Rhine wine valley on £15 flights, sunshine in Tenerife for £40 flights, lazy days on the Algarve for £15, £9 for 4-star hotels.

In 1983 I bought a train ticket from Moscow to Beijing for £36 (which in 2017 is £119). This was for 9 nights travel in a couchette sleeping and eating on the train. To travel with a company is around £1500. Since then budget travel has been a minor obsession and more so since my children were older. For over 30 years I have travelled enjoying cheap holidays with my family, friends and partner at a lot less than the prices advertised in brochures. It lets you experience the hidden fun places and festivals in Europe. Tips for families, the active traveller, couples and groups of friends are found throughout this site. I wrote my first TripAdvisor review on 11 December 2004 and I’m now a top contributor having visited 430 cities and towns in 23 countries and covering 27% of the world’s surface. I have had 110 holidays in the last 10 years.
